Unit 1

1.1 Deliver a Shibashi practical session to learners.

1.2 Demonstrate diaphragmatic breathing in relationship to Shibashi 1 movements.

1.3 Perform and justify correct fundamental body alignment.

1.4 Demonstrate application of movement to breathing

There are no written assignments for this unit as you will have already covered the fundamentals of Tai Chi & Qigong during your REP's Beginners course. Evidence for the above will be gained at your final practical observation, so it is important that you begin to look at the observation sheet when practising the movements - nearer the time of assessment. You will be expected to 'justify' correct body alignment so this will be a case of talking through the main points. Questions will be asked by the assessor, if they need to clarify an issue.

Unit 2

2.1 Illustrate and select ways for teaching adaptations of movements to ensure inclusion .

This will be evidenced at your final practical session.

2.2 Analyse and evaluate ways of teaching movements for inclusion of disability and reduced mobility.

There is written work for this, which is an online discussion. Click here to enter the discussion, once your tutor has given you the date.

You need to actively participate in the discussion which will be set up for you. You will be informed of the date of this discussion by your tutor, nearer the time. Please ensure that you make at least 3 contributions ( each one should add something new to the discussion). Sharing your personal experiences is really helpful to your peers, but please also remember that you need to provide evidence, through discussion, that you can evaluate how and when to adapt a movement.

Here are the 3 things in one comment that count - because it covers everything.

Firstly: Mention a problem e.g. Older person with reduced balance etc - maybe due to Parkinsons or Stroke.

Secondly: Say how people may be affected e.g. balance, restricted movement of feet or hands.

Lastly: Say how to adapt for this e.g. have a chair at hand in case it's required for confidence, reduce the bow stance movements as the learner may worry about their balance in these movements, visualise the lifting of the toe and the heel when appropriate.

If you cover the 3 important aspects in one comment it will provide you with evidence. Then begin again with another problem and go through the same 3 steps again. You need 3 useful contributions to gain your evidence.

As a REP's instructor your remit is working with older people or those with disabilities, so please keep this in mind as you need to gain evidence in the discussion for this. You may want to talk about the problems of adapting movements for someone in a wheelchair or someone who has arthritis - both of these would provide you with the required evidence.
